Connect your own Twilio account to answer text messages. Customers text your Twilio number, and your AI agent replies by SMS.

You bring your own Twilio account. Twilio bills you directly for SMS usage.

Before you start

You need:

  • A Twilio account that is active, with at least one SMS-capable phone number or Messaging Service.
  • From the Twilio Console: your Account SID, a Restricted API Key (its SID and Secret), and your Auth Token.
  • A Mevrik account with the Owner or Admin role. Other roles can see the page but can't connect.

Connect Twilio

  1. In Mevrik, go to Settings → Channels.
  2. In the SMS group, find SMS (subtitle Twilio-powered) and click Connect.
  3. In the Connect Twilio SMS dialog, enter the four values:
    • Account SID (starts with AC)
    • API Key SID (starts with SK)
    • API Key Secret
    • Auth Token
  4. Click Validate. When the credentials are good, you'll see "Account … looks good."
  5. Click Connect. You'll see a message such as "Twilio account … connected", and the dialog moves to Choose numbers to connect.
  6. Tick the phone numbers or Messaging Services your AI agent should send and receive SMS on. To pick the main one, tick it and choose Set as default.
  7. Click Register selected. Each row shows Registering…, then Registered.
  8. Click Done.

To create the API Key, go to Account → API keys & tokens in the Twilio Console and create a Restricted API Key. Mevrik recommends a Restricted API Key rather than your main Auth Token for sending. The Auth Token is still required, because only it can verify that incoming SMS really came from Twilio.

If a number shows "Inbound routing needs manual setup", Mevrik couldn't set the number's SMS webhook with your API Key. Set the SMS webhook in the Twilio Console to finish connecting incoming messages.

Confirm it works

  1. On the SMS card, click the connected count.
  2. Your account appears with the Active badge.
  3. Text your Twilio number from another phone. The conversation appears in your inbox.

Reconnect

If the connection shows Expiring soon, Token expired or Disconnected, click Reconnect and enter your credentials again. To add more numbers later, use Add another on the card.

Disconnect

  1. Open the list on the SMS card.
  2. Click Disconnect, then confirm. You'll see "Twilio SMS disconnected".

Your AI agent stops answering SMS immediately. Existing conversations stay in your inbox.
